    Q&A

Why should I perform preventative maintenance?

Why should I perform preventative maintenance?

Why should I perform preventative maintenance?

Heating and cooling systems work incredibly hard to perform their functions for your household. The constant stopping, starting and continual operation can wear down a machine quickly and unexpectedly if the proper care and maintenance is delayed. However, by performing preventive maintenance, or servicing your system regularly, you can maximize the life-cycle of your heating or cooling unit and guard against many unexpected failures.

Preventive maintenance inspections performed on a regular basis can uncover leaks, rust, rot, soot, frayed wires and corroded electrical contacts.

How often should I have my unit serviced?

Heating and Cooling units need to have scheduled check-ups annually, to make sure everything is operating properly. At PAK Heating and Cooling, we will inspect and service your system by lubricating components, and repair or replace any malfunctioning components.

What is the main benefit of an HRV?

What are the benefits of installing a whole house humidifier?

An HRV constantly supplies fresh air to your home.  It continually provides a healthy indoor environment by reducing odors and indoor pollutants, such as radon, formaldehyde, tobacco smoke, carbon dioxide and pesticides.

What are the benefits of installing a whole house humidifier?

With central heating, people are confined indoors with unnaturally dry air for many months each year. Humidifiers help to keep comfortable levels of moisture in the air, which is essential for your respiratory health.

Whole-house humidifiers work like old-fashioned room humidifiers: They put moisture into the air, making harsh, dry air easier to breathe. A major difference is that they improve the air in every room of your home—no more carrying a humidifier from room to room in the winter.

As well they save you money on your heating bill because with proper humidity levels you will feel more comfortable at a lower temperature.

Should outdoor units be covered in the winter?

What are the benefits of installing a whole house humidifier?

How often do you have to change your furnace filter?

Ideally yes.  With a proper cover you can prevent ice and snow building up in your outdoor unit. However Air conditioners can be accidentally turned on by someone in your home without them knowing that the outdoor unit has been covered, creating potential damage to your condenser and its internal components.  So covering your unit depends individually on each household.

How often do you have to change your furnace filter?

    Every 90 days

How frequently you change a new air filter at your residence depends on many factors.  A vacation house or single occupant with no pets or allergens: every 6–12 months. Common suburban home without pets: every 90 days.  Multiple pets: every 60 days.
